Poor society has often been described as a barbaric place where people are often at the mercy of their whims, as well as the whims of other people. In a lot of ways, poverty is a state at which survival is the only consideration that a person has, because the future is often not seen as a relevant and important thing. After all, who cares about how well funded their retirement is going to be decades away from now, if they are not entirely certain that they are going to make it through this week, this month, or even today? The lives which are lived in poverty are all too often lived entirely in the moment.
While living in the moment is the most fun type of existence, and there is a certain freedom and disinhibition which characterizes the poor, it can also be a very violent and short type of life to live. After all, the life of a poor person is very often lived at the razor’s edge as far as their living situation, the relationships they carry on, and even basic things such as their medical care. Far too often, a poor person’s life is going to be spent constantly attempting to fight off a combination of other people and illness after undiagnosed and untreated illness.
While most people will look at a poor person and merely see someone who does not have very much money, it goes much deeper than that. In order to understand poverty itself, you must gain an understanding of the mindset which characterizes the poor. While people speak of opportunities or the circumstances into which a person is born, we all have plenty of chances. The trick is that people who have wealthier mindsets are far more likely to recognize the chances that we are all given in this life, instead of seeing only the down sides.
